Tier Box

Tier Box - Eric Fuller

This is Eric Fuller’s “Tier Box.”  I pre-ordered it from Fuller at International Puzzle Party 29.  He had a single working but slightly unfinished prototype at the IPP.  Because of the pre-order, I got a considerable discount: $190 with free shipping vs. $217 + shipping when it became available later at Cubic Dissection, his website.  There was a delay of about a month, though.  Fuller had decided to improve one of the panels and wound up messing it up and having to redo it.

The delay was worth it, though.  Fuller has made very clever use of sliding panels in this design, and it is considerably more difficult than most traditional boxes, including those with more moves.  It is sort of the next generation of his Cam Box.  This was definitely one of my favorite puzzle boxes.  It was fun to play with even after solving it.  Fuller stated that it had about a 15 minute solution time.  I took about half an hour, and I think that’s the ideal level of difficulty for me.
