Jeff’s Puzzle and Magic Reviews

about me

Hi, this is Jeff, Lyndie’s husband.  I’m an amateur magic hobbyist (a member of Palo Alto Society of American Magicians #94 and San Jose International Brotherhood of Magicians #216).  I’ve also started collecting mechanical puzzles beginning late 2006.  In this blog I’ll be presenting my random thoughts on magic and puzzles.

    Hi,
First off…I really like your blogg, keep adding reviews!
Second, I have found a puzzle that might keep u buzy for a while, check out http://www.revomaze.co.uk/ I have puchased the first three and found them very interesting.

    Best Regards
    Jonas (Sweden)

  4. Jonas:

The Revomaze has an internal maze that you can’t see, right? I don’t have the patience for something like that. Any puzzle that you can get money for solving (like Isis) is going to be really hard!

My hat’s off to you having the tenacity to solve them.

  5. Hi Jeff,

Sorry I missed you at IPP, the puzzle party was a mad house! Myself, my wife and 2 kids were there looking at as many puzzles as possible!

Did you figure out that Confetto Box? That seemed a very difficult puzzle box. I had to look at the solution to get into the second compartment.

  6. George:
I also had to look at the solution for the confetto box 2nd compartment (I got it as a Karakuri club Christmas present in ‘08). I thought the solution had something to do with reversing the first removable panel, but it didn’t.

  8. Hi Jeff,

I’ve been working on a Makishi puzzle box similar to the one shown in your picture below:

I was wondering if you could help me find instructions for it. I really appreciate any help you can provide!

Hi Jeff, I’m having problems with a similar puzzle to Chase’s, I don’t think it’s quite 50 moves but it’s the same setup with only two moving tabs… can you send me any hints or instructions? Thanks!

  12. You are correct about the internal maze in the revo, and yes it can drive u crazy, the blue and green ain’t all that bad, but the bronze can make you go crazy =)

Anyway I was reading Brians comment about the Sanfield’s site. I was wondering if you have anyway of getting me in touch with anyone of the Sanfields brothers. The reason being that after reading your review about the Danlock I also got that one and absolutely loved it! And now I’m reading that you are comparing the salt and pepper shakers to it. This makes me want a set of those really bad. Is there any way you could help?

PS. Found another “set” of puzzles, and I think you might like it (tricklocks): http://www.popplock.com/

    Best Regards

Hey, cool site, you have a lot of puzzles haha, not a cheap hobby. was wondering if you know any good sites for canadians that wouldnt be too expensive, or if you would be interested in some sort of loan a puzzle scheme. (you could charge a fee for renting individual puzzles or a yearly fee ie: 100$ + 100$ security deposit, and the person would be able to have 1 puzzle at a time, when they return it (undamaged) they may then request another one, etc. i think this would be neat, plus you could profit from your collection…

I have messed it up and now cannot even get it back to a rectangle to even restart. I was wondering if you could help me find instructions for it. Thanks for your time and I hope to hear from you soon!
